This book is called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. The first time I read this book I thought it was awful and kind of disturbing but over the summer I thought I 'd give it another try. I feel in love with it then and even though many people believe it's a bad book I really like it. It's about a freshman girl named Melinda Sordino who was raped and then called the police at the end of summer party and is now an outcast because many of her friends who were at the party got in trouble because of the under-age drinking that had been happening at the party. In my opinion the topic of teenage outcast and rape is a very hard topic to write about without offending anyone and I think Laurie does a fabulous job of giving emotions, details (but not too many) and describing what Melinda is going through.
Good job on explaining this! At first, I too thought I would not enjoy this book from what you were saying but now I am interested in reading it.
